Genetic Programs and Co-Evolution: Developing robust general purpose controllers using local mating in two-dimensional populations

چکیده
A co-evolutionary approach for developing programs for controlling a very simple \robot-like" simulated vehicle is presented. The main goal is to nd programs that can generalize and solve other similar problems. Good results are achieved by coevolving the test cases and the simulated vehicles and using locality in both the reproduction and evaluation phases. The tness of a controller is determined by its performance in competition with its neighbours in the test case population. The tness of a test case is similarly determined through competition with its neighbours in the controller population. The co-evolved controllers are more robust and general than a simple hand-designed algorithm or controllers evolved using a xed training set.

Presentation of quasi-linear piecewise selected models simultaneously with designing of bump-less optimal robust controller for nonlinear vibration control of composite plates
The idea of using quasi-linear piecewise models has been established on the decomposition of complicated nonlinear systems, simultaneously designing with local controllers. Since the proper performance and the final system close loop stability are vital in multi-model controllers designing, the main problem in multi-model controllers is the number of the local models and their position not payi...
متن کاملKaryotypic Study and Chromosome Evolution in Some Iranian Local Onion Populations
Abstract A karyotypic study was performed on 12 Iranian local onion (Allium cepa L.) populations. A number of mitotic cells at metaphase stage for each population were prepared. Chromosomes of suitable mitotic cells were counted and various parameters, including long arm (L), short arm (S), total length of chromosome (TL), relative length of chromosome (RL), arm ratio (AR), r-value, total chro...
متن کاملGenetic characterization of great sturgeon brood stocks- recommendations for the conservation management and aquaculture
The great sturgeon, Huso huso, is one of the most important cultured sturgeon species in Iran, which effective management of aquaculture production of this species requires knowledge of broodstock structure, mating patterns, and genetic diversity of broodstock. The aim of the present study was the application of microsatellite DNA analysis for genetic diversity assessment in the first generatio...
متن کاملEvolution and Co-evolution of Computer Programs to Control Independently-acting Agents
This paper describes the recently developed "genetic programming" paradigm which genetically breeds populations of computer programs to solve problems. In genetic programming, the individuals in the population are hierarchical computer programs of various sizes and shapes. This paper also extends the genetic programming paradigm to a "co-evolution" algorithm which operates simultaneously on two...
متن کاملEvolution of Corridor Following Behavior in a Noisy World
Robust behavioral control programs for a simulated 2d vehicle can be constructed by artificial evolution. Corridor following serves here as an example of a behavior to be obtained through evolution. A controller’s fitness is judged by its ability to steer its vehicle along a collision free path through a simple corridor environment. The controller’s inputs are noisy range sensors and its output...
